Thank you for your dedication and support of the New York Knicks. Today we made several changes to the Knicks roster that I wanted to share.
As part of a three-team trade we have acquired seven-time All-Star swingman Tracy McGrady from the Houston Rockets and guard Sergio Rodriguez from the Sacramento Kings. We traded guard Larry Hughes to Sacramento and forwards Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries to Houston, as well as a protected 2012 first round pick, and the Rockets have the option to exchange for a protected first round draft selection in 2011. We have also acquired guards Eddie House and J.R. Giddens and guard/forward Bill Walker from the Boston Celtics, in exchange for guard Nate Robinson and forward Marcus Landry.
McGrady has been one of the premier players in the NBA over the past decade and we have every indication that he is healthy and committed to re-establishing himself as one of the best in our game. The addition of Sergio should help the team for the remainder of the season. These changes will also provide us an opportunity to give some of our younger players more quality time on the court.
When I arrived in New York I shared with you the organization’s strategy of getting under the salary cap to become players in upcoming free agent classes. Our moves today have further positioned us to pursue our strategy over the summer. We are also committed to making sure the team remains competitive this season, and under the guidance of Coach Mike D’Antoni I am confident that we will continue to play an entertaining style of basketball while developing some of our younger players.
Thank you again for your continued support, we look forward to seeing you soon at the Garden.
